- MeetingsGiving your view, and agreeing and disagreeing politely.
- Phone and video callsWith colleagues and clients: opening the call, checking you understood, closing it.
- Small talk in the officeWeekends, the weather, and who's making the tea.
- PresentationsOpening, moving from one point to the next, and taking questions.
- British workplace phrases and what they really mean“With respect…” (I disagree), “Not bad” (good), “I'll bear it in mind” (probably not).
- Honest feedback on how you soundWhich words and sounds to work on, said kindly and plainly.
Why a real Brit
The English you hear at a UK company is not the English in a course book. Practise with someone who grew up with it:
- The accent.Your colleagues won't sound like the recordings. Get used to real British speech before your first week.
- The indirectness.People in UK offices soften almost everything. “Could we possibly…” is often a firm request, and “interesting” isn't always praise.
- The humour.Dry jokes and understatement are part of most meetings. Knowing when someone is joking matters as much as the words.
